The Seasons (Spring) by Jasper Johns
I can't quite explain why I'm so into this painting right now. When I was in D.C. for the Black Playwrights Convening, I caught this exhibit at the National Gallery. I hadn't seen a lot of Johns' work in the past, but I was really struck by his work. In particular, this one has been sticking with me. I look at it and there's so much going on, so many facets and parts and stories in it. I've been trying to think of a way to write a play that matches this piece. That's one of my goals this year.

The whole Johns show was pretty awesome. I caught it at the National Gallery as well-- there were some related works of his in the Meyerhoff collection upstairs.
One thing that struck me was how his friendship with Merce Cunningham was a recurrent theme through several pieces.
