Not What I Wanted

I actually wanted to find a link to a video of this since I think the lyrics are pretty much perfect for a life in the theatre, but alas, it seems that it's not popular enough for YouTube and I never learned how to embed an MP3. So...this will have to do.

For the record, I'm not actually quitting or anything. But I am going into hibernation for a bit. I'm just not feeling it right now. You've got enough to keep you busy. We all do. See ya when I see ya.

I am sorry to see this, but know exactly how you have gotten here. The Blogosphere can be emotionally wearing, especially for anyone who has a sense of idealism. Trolls like Thomas Garvey spend their time injecting self-satisfied cynicism into your comments box, and after a while it wears you out. Been there, done that. Here's the problem: when the good people bail, all that's left are the cynics. Not your problem -- just the way things go. I hope you'll be back.

Thanks, Scott. I'm feeling slightly less apocalyptic, but only slightly. This field seems to thrive on cynicism, dishonesty and mistrust and it wears a body down. You just have to remember to get up.

Indeed. Take some time, let your spirit heal. Remind yourself that resistance to change and thinking outside your comfort zone is endemic to the human condition, and those who propose new ideas usually have to go through a great many attacks to get their ideas into the dialogue. It can happen, as my focus on the non-Nylachi arts has, after several years and a great deal of bloodletting, started to enter the consciousness of the arts organizations, as my invitation to participate in the Arena Theatre convening illustrates. Hang in there.
