I'm Sure This Exists...
...But I feel like I haven't heard of it, or heard much about it. Are people doing play reading podcasts? Not necessarily radio plays, but readings of plays on podcasts? Anybody heard of that? Did I miss a memo or a meme?
Not often enough, I think. I'm curious if there's an Actor's Equity issue with this. I know occasionally Martin Denton will have portions of plays read aloud in order to promote them, but that's about it. There may be (George Hunka seems to find) things like this overseas, like on the BBC. But in the states? I don't hear it.
Yeah, the Equity question did occur to me, but I'm not totally sure it applies, especially if we're talking about just gathering actors together to read the work and recording it. IRL, I asked some folks about it and it doesn't seem like anyone's heard about it. The usefulness seems a little unclear, but it might be a better way to give someone the flavor of a play, rather than reading it.
